A mother presents to the paediatric emergency department (ED) with her 3-day-old baby girl, who has developed significant jaundice through the course of the day. She is otherwise well.
The baby was born by instrumental delivery at 37+5 weeks. She is breast feeding and producing wet nappies. She has one older sister who required treatment for neonatal jaundice.
On clinical examination, there is cephalohematoma and marked jaundice.
Vitals:
- Heart rate 156
- Blood pressure 65/32
- Respiratory rate 48
- Oxygen saturation 97% (pre and post-ductal)
- Temperature 36.9 degrees Celsius
