A patient attends the emergency department complaining of leg swelling, frank haematuria and was noticed by her GP at a visit to surgery this morning to be extremely hypertensive. She had attended the GP as a follow up for a sore throat she had suffered from three weeks earlier. Her tonsils had been white and covered in pustules at the time, but she received no antibiotics. There is protein and blood in her urine.
