A 20-year-old woman presents with lower abdominal pain waking her from sleep and radiating into her right lower back. She feels her lower abdomen is swollen and she is finding it difficult to urinate.
She has a history of pelvic inflammatory disease and multiple urinary tract infections.
She is tachycardic (rate 115 beats per minute), with a blood pressure of 97/63, but has otherwise normal vital signs.
