A 36-year-old female presents to the Emergency Department (ED) with sudden onset of thoracic back pain and numbness in her right leg that began the day before. She reports no trauma or previous medical history.
On initial examination, she is able to walk, and her neurological exam appears normal. She is admitted to the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) for pain management and physiotherapy. However, by the following morning, she reports increasing weakness in her right leg.
On reassessment, her right leg power is found to be 2/5 and she describes altered sensation over the right leg.
