Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC)

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is an important clinical entity seen in critically ill patients. Early identification of DIC and the underlying cause allows targeted treatment and improves patient outcomes.     

This learning session discusses the core concepts underlying the pathophysiology and management of DIC in the Emergency Department (ED).

• Understand the pathophysiology underlying DIC
• Identify the clinical features of DIC
• Be able to differentiate between the differential diagnoses of DIC    
• Manage patients with DIC in the Emergency Department
