A 52-year-old gentleman presents to your emergency department (ED) with a 1-day history of a painful swelling around his left eye. His eyelids have now become swollen shut.
He describes the swelling as starting suddenly overnight. There was no known trauma and he has been otherwise well in himself.
He takes metformin regularly for type 2 diabetes mellitus. He has no known allergies.
His observations are as follows:
- A. Oxygen saturations 99% on room air
- B. Respiratory rate 16 breaths per minute
- C. Heart rate 88 beats per minute
- D. Blood pressure 134/88 mmHg
- E. Temperature 38.4 degrees Celcius

You suspect that this patient has orbital cellulitis.
