Clinical Case 1

A 43-year-old female awaiting a laparoscopic cholecystectomy presents with upper abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.

The symptoms began quite suddenly earlier in the day and have persisted for several hours.

The patient is found to have:

  • A heart rate of 115 bpm
  • Blood pressure 85/5 5mmHg
  • Respiratory rate 23 bpm
  • Oxygen saturations 97%
  • Temperature 37.4°C

Examination reveals tenderness in the upper abdomen without rebound.
