Pitfalls
Patients with PD can be very reliant on their medication to maintain functional performance. When EDs are very busy and these patients are awaiting ED assessment, there can be delays in the administration of their PD medication.
PD medication administration should be treated as Time Critical. Delay can result in significant deterioration in the patient and may exacerbate the acute illness that has brought them to the Emergency Department.
Parkinson’s UK have launched a “Get It On Time” campaign to raise awareness of this issue.
