Management of stable VS unstable pelvic fracture

Definition of stable injury: able to withstand physiological forces without significant displacement (ie. <1cm). Usually managed conservatively.

Unstable pelvic fractures can be unstable vertically or rotationally. Operative management is required with either External Fixation or Open Reduction with Internal Fixation (ORIF).
