An adequate AP view should demonstrate the inferior border of C2 to the top of T1. In practice however, the upper portion of the spine is often missed

Alignment
To check alignment, three lines should be drawn
- Spinous process alignment – these should be in alignment with no lateral deviation
- Foramina line on right
- Foramina line on left
