Vaginal Bleeding in the Non-Pregnant Patient

An interactive learning session covering the relevance of vaginal bleeding in an Emergency Medicine context; the pathophysiology and aetiology of vaginal bleeding in different age groups; the assessment of patients with vaginal bleeding and the safe management and disposition of these patients.

After completing this session you will be able to:

  • Explain the causes of vaginal bleeding in non-pregnant patients including children, adolescents, premenopausal women and postmenopausal women.
  • Perform a thorough assessment of a patient with vaginal bleeding in ED.
  • Safely manage both stable and unstable patients with vaginal bleeding.
  • Know which patients require onward referral to investigate or treat their bleeding.
