A 4-year-old girl, Kacy, presents with her mother with a history of nausea, abdominal pain and headache, and rapidly worsening drowsiness. Kacys symptoms started after their visit to the park where she and her friends were playing. They did not spend too much time outside and it wasnt a particularly hot day.

On examination:

Airway – Patent
Breathing Respiratory rate (RR) 14 breaths/minute, oxygen saturation (SpO2) 98% on room air, bilateral equal air entry
Circulation Heart rate 108 beats/minute, capillary refill time (CRT) <2 seconds Disability – Drowsy but arousable, pupils 3mm and reactive, no lateralising signs
Exposure – Normothermic
